The project "European dimensions of culture and history of the Balkans (training program for post-doctoral students and young researchers)" has been sponsored by the "Human Resources" Operational program. Granting of free financial support scheme: BG051 PO001/07/3.3-02 "Support for the development of doctoral and post-doctoral students and young researchers".

The project is carrying out in cooperation with colleagues affiliated to the Institute of Balkan Studies. The project began at 16.06.2008. The manager of the project is Prof. Margarita Karamihova; the coordinator is Prof. Bobi Bobev.

Main goal: Improvement of the quality of education and facilitating the access to it; creating of good working conditions for post-doctoral students’ training as a basis of stable development and competitive power; establishing of the Bulgarian humanities as a leading center in the European regions of science.

Specific goals: Creation and application of a new inter-disciplinary educational product, which should be conformable to the priorities of the European and national development strategies.

- Widening of the post-doctoral student’s and young researchers’ knowledge in European and Balkan historical and cultural context;

- Stimulation of the creativity of the young researchers and their  pedagogic and organizational abilities;

- Initiating a dialogue as a first step toward  establishing the post-doctoral students’ and young researchers’ status;

- Establishing of virtual and real scientific net-work of post-doctoral students and young researchers, who should examine the regional culture.


First stage of the project was finalised in February 2009.
6 PostDocs have been trained: Mila Maeva, PhD (EIM BAS), Magdalena Slavkova, PhD (EIM BAS), Svetlana Antova, PhD(EIM BAS), Yulia Zlatkova, PhD (IBS BAS), Zlatomira Gerdzhikova, PhD (IBS BAS) and Yura Konstantinova, PhD(IBS BAS).
